Exploring Therapeutic Photography

How the Heal Hypno-Therapeutic Photography Group Can Help You Embrace Your Creative Side

Trying something new often comes with a mix of excitement and apprehension. For many, therapeutic photography can feel intimidating—especially if you’re nervous about meeting new people or feel uncertain about your photography skills. To ease any worries, I’ve answered some of the most common questions people have before joining the Heal Hypno-Therapeutic Photography Group. Remember, your curiosity and comfort are my main priorities.

“I’m Nervous About Meeting New People”

Meeting new people can be daunting, and it’s natural to feel hesitant. With over a decade of experience as a therapist, hypnotherapist, and former lecturer in Media and Performance Arts, I understand these feelings well. Whether you’re joining a face-to-face or an online group, the setting is intentionally kept small to foster a sense of security. For online sessions, we use breakout rooms to allow for smaller discussions and exploration, creating a safe, welcoming environment. And if group settings don’t feel right for you, one-on-one sessions are also available as part of your therapeutic journey.

“I Don’t Really Know How to Use My Camera”

No worries—no technical experience is necessary! Our sessions assume no prior knowledge or special skills with photography. This experience is about self-expression, not perfecting technical details. As you engage in the sessions, you’ll naturally grow more comfortable with your camera or phone, and you may even learn a few techniques along the way.

“I Don’t Have a Professional Camera”

You don’t need one! You’re welcome to use any photographic device, whether it’s a smartphone, DSLR, tablet, or even a film camera. The focus is not on high-end gear but rather on how you use your device to capture and process your unique experiences.

“I’m Not Sure How to Use My Smartphone, Tablet, or DSLR”

Confidence with your device will build as you participate in the project. As you begin to explore photography therapeutically, the process of capturing and reflecting on images often becomes more intuitive. If you find yourself needing additional guidance, I’m here to help, but extensive technical tuition is generally unnecessary.

“I Don’t Want My Photos Shared in Exhibitions or Online”

That’s perfectly okay! You have complete control over your level of disclosure. Sharing is optional, and no images will be used in any public space without your explicit consent.

“Is This Like Ordinary Therapy?”

In some ways, yes. This experience is a therapeutic intervention designed to support mental health and emotional expression through a unique blend of hypnotherapy, solution-focused techniques, and professional therapeutic photography facilitation. This isn’t just photography—it’s an opportunity to explore emotions and self-understanding in a safe, guided space.

“Is All the Teaching Online?”

Most of our work takes place face-to-face with individuals, groups, and organizations. We occasionally offer online projects, which are conducted over Zoom. Full instructions are provided before any virtual workshop to ensure a smooth experience.

“Can I Try Before Committing?”

Absolutely! You’re welcome to join a free taster session to get a feel for the group and see if this is a good fit for you. It’s a chance to meet others, see how sessions are run, and start exploring therapeutic photography in a low-pressure setting.

If you’re curious about therapeutic photography but feel nervous about taking that first step, remember that you’re not alone. The Heal Hypno-Therapeutic Photography Group is designed to be a gentle, supportive space where you can explore your creativity, process emotions, and build confidence with your photography—all while in a nurturing environment.
